In the moonlight n°20: Scraggy and Scrafty Empty In the moonlight n°20: Scraggy and Scrafty

Scraggy is a Gen 5 Pokemon, the first of the dual typing dark/fighting, good combination removing the psychic and bug weaknesses, sadly Gen 6 came with the fairy type and Scraggy got a double fairy weakness. A good Pokemon, strong with good bulk, but it now has a double weakness. It has a 348 base stat total, which is better than a starting Pokemon. This features a 75 base attack, 70 base defense and special defense, for 50 base HP, that's decent, and the access to Dragon Dance and an eviolite make it one of the most used Pokemon in LC. Scraggy always stole the show when I was testing Kabuto. To make it even more dangerous, Scraggy can have three good abilities. Either Shed Skin (1/3 chance to heal its status after each turn), Intimidate (no comments) and Moxie (raises attack by 1 after beating an opponent). Moxie is the ability that makes Scraggy a great sweeper in LC, beware.

Comparing it to its evolved form: Scrafty keeps the same typing and abilities, and has a base stat total of 488. Its best stats are defense and special defense with 115 each, but it's weighed down by 65 base HP. A base speed of 58 makes Dragon Dance harder to set, and a 90 base attack can't really do much without help (item or setup). Thankfully it still has Bulk Up going its way.

How to play them?

Scraggy: LC tier. Eviolite to increase its rather good defensive stats. The best ability for Scraggy in LC is Moxie. You first use Dragon Dance to gain speed and enough power to finish off an opponent, then you use either of your STAB moves: High Jump Kick (base power 130, up to 195 with fighting STAB) or Knock Off because there are too many eviolites in LC. Dance, kill, Moxie, repeat, kill, Moxie, repeat, kill, Moxie, repeat.
The fourth move in your set is up to you, but personally I suggest Poison Jab, because Cottonee is annoying as Hell, and you also have a cover on other fairies. With this set you have a war machine in LC, and with a Bunnelby to complete the sweep you will be feared.

Scrafty: RU tier. You can use the same set as Scraggy but it's not as good, given Scrafty's limited speed. After one Dragon Dance, it's still slower than a Pokemon with a 112 base speed, and its double fairy weakness weighs it down just as much, this is probably why it moved down to RU (when I wrote the French version of this article it was UU). That's why a bulky set is more effective: ability Shed Skin and item leftovers. You first setup with Bulk Up to boost your defense and your attack. You might have the time to do it twice. Then, you can unload Drain Punch and recover HP from the damage you deal. You can get a dark STAB move such as Crunch or Knock Off, or a coverage move like Poison Jab, it's up to you, but don't get both, for the final move should be Rest. With Shed Skin, you can wake up earlier, and if Shed Skin takes too much time to heal a burn you can do it manually. 248 HP 252+ Atk 8 SpD or you can put fewer EVs in attack to raise special defense, since you're going to use Bulk Up anyway.

I really love Scraggy and Scrafty. They're offensive, good and still reasonable, and now that Scrafty has been moved down to RU it should be more fun to use. Great defenses but not enough HP, which is a shame.

Good article n_n. I don't have too much to say for this one. To be honest after its speed after dragon dance is ok already, cuz 112 base speed isn't that bad. And it does have intimidate and good bulk so it's not hard to set up two dragon dances. The bulk up set can be annoying to deal with but is kind of outclassed by resttalk malamar. I guess being able to do things to fairy type and shed skin makes them different.

Well, if Scrafty hits first with Poison Jab it can do things to fairies, but as most fairy moves are special, they often mean OHKO, even with the Bulk Up set. So sad a double weakness slows them down that much...

It's better against Diancie, yes, but counting on flinch is too random unless you have Serene Grace, like Togekiss or Jirachi.

Mine is Whimsicott. For Diancie, a High Jump Kick can still hurt a lot.
